Illuminate Your Winter Break.

Strengthen Your Faith with Sacred Knowledge

Islam invites us to live with both heart and mind in harmony. To feel deeply and to think deeply. Yet in our busy lives, moments for structured, meaningful study are rare, especially in the West.

The Ilm Intensive offers that rare opportunity. Each year, nationally recognized scholars bring timeless Islamic teachings to life through engaging, relevant discussions. In a setting that inspires both reflection and connection, students rediscover the beauty of their faith and the purpose that anchors it.

Whether you are taking your first step on the path of knowledge or seeking to deepen a lifelong journey, the Ilm Intensive is designed to strengthen your understanding and rekindle your love for Allah and His Messenger ﷺ.

Past attendees have described the experience as transformative, a renewal of faith, clarity, and community. Now it’s your turn!

Our Courses

Course Description:
What does it mean to engage in politics as a Muslim—especially in a non-Muslim society like the United States? Should Muslims participate in elections, advocate for social causes, or challenge unjust laws? Or does true faith require political withdrawal?

For many Muslims, these questions stir deep tension between loyalty to divine guidance and the realities of modern governance. Yet Islamic tradition offers a framework not of retreat, but of principled engagement. Rooted in Qur’anic imperatives to command good, forbid evil, and stand for justice, civic participation can be understood as part of our divine mandate of khilāfah—to act as God’s stewards on earth.

In this course, Imam Tom Facchine explores how classical Islamic legal concepts—such as al-walāʾ wa-l-barāʾ, territorial classifications, and the duty to uphold justice—intersect with contemporary political realities. You’ll see how the freedoms afforded by the U.S. Constitution, especially the First Amendment, create a unique opportunity for Muslims to live, advocate, and share their faith publicly—an opportunity that demands both gratitude and vigilance.

Through this study, you’ll gain a framework for engaging in civic life with conviction, strategy, and sincerity—rooting your activism not in partisanship, but in prophecy.

Join us to discover how prophetic values can guide Muslim participation in shaping a more just and faithful society.

About The Instructor:

Imam Tom completed his BA in Political Science from Vassar College in 2011 and was granted the opportunity to study at the Islamic University of Madinah from 2015-2020, where he obtained his BA from the Faculty of Shariah. Imam Tom is from Southern New Jersey. Brought up a Christian, he left Christianity as a teenager and became an atheist. During this period he had a political awakening and developed a passion for leftist political theory and activism, particularly Marxism, anarchism, and feminism. It wasn’t until he reached university and began studying European colonialism and secularism that his commitments started to loosen, leaving him open to the influence of Malcolm X and Islam. This culminated in his conversion to Islam in 2010.

Imam Tom’s research interests remain secularism, European colonialism, feminism, and all things political theory, but now his research is anchored in an Islamic paradigm and informed by the Islamic scholarly tradition. He serves as Research Director of Islam and Society at Yaqeen Institute.

Course Description: The Prophet ﷺ called dua the essence of worship — the act that defines our need, hope, and trust in Allah. No believer ever outgrows it. In this course, you’ll explore how the Prophet ﷺ taught us to make dua with sincerity, presence, and adab. You’ll learn how to ask more beautifully, how to persist with patience, and how to avoid common mistakes that block the acceptance of our prayers. Grounded in the Prophet’s ﷺ own supplications, this class revives the art of calling upon Allah — not just with words, but with the heart. About The Instructor: Ustadh Majed completed a Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Windsor, a Bachelor’s in Islamic Studies in Islamic Jurisprudence and Legal Theory from Al-Madinah International University, and a Master’s in Business Administration from Wayne State University. As he travels worldwide lecturing about different aspects of Islam, Majed works full-time as a mechanical engineer and teaches with Al-Maghrib Institute. He currently lives in Michigan with his wife and children.
Course Description: Revealed in the late Makkan period, Surah Al-Mulk is among the most powerful and virtuous chapters of the Qur’an—one that the Prophet ﷺ urged every believer to recite regularly. This Surah reminds us of Allah’s absolute authority, the precision of His creation, and the reality of life after death. It speaks of purpose, accountability, and the dominion that belongs to Allah alone. In this course, you'll be introduced to Surah Al-Mulk, uncovering its themes, lessons, and spiritual impact. Through classical commentary and contemporary reflection, you’ll gain a deeper appreciation for Allah’s Attributes and the profound truths woven through the verses. About The Instructor: Mufti Abdul Rahman Waheed was born and raised in Lansing, MI. As a youth, he displayed zeal and enthusiasm to involve himself in the religious sciences. At just 9 years of age, Mufti Abdul Rahman went to Toronto, Canada to pursue his dreams of becoming a Hafidh of the Holy Qur'an. Thereafter, Mufti Abdul Rahman traveled to Pakistan to continue his passion to seek knowledge where he completed his 2 year Iftaa program which specializes in Islamic Jurisprudence and Law. Mufti Abdul Rahman is serving as a principal and is a full-time instructor at Michigan Islamic Institute, the brother organization of Miftaah Institute. He travels across North America as a khateeb and lecturer. He is well-known for his calm and down-to-Earth demeanor.
Course Description: Maybe you’ve heard people say things like “We can’t fact-check hadiths” or mention “the historical critical method.” These ideas come up in academic settings, online discussions, and even within Muslim circles, often leaving us unsure about how to respond. For more than fourteen centuries, the Hadith tradition has preserved and verified the words of the Prophet ﷺ with a level of care unmatched in any other historical record. Far from being blind faith, it is a science built on trust, reason, and rigorous scholarship. In this course, you will discover how Muslim scholars developed a system of verification that critically examined every narrator, every chain, and every text, long before modern historians spoke about “source criticism.” You will see how the hadith sciences unite faith and intellect, offering believers clarity and confidence in an age of doubt. Join us to strengthen your understanding of how we know what we know about the Prophet ﷺ and why this tradition continues to inspire minds and hearts today. About The Instructor: Waqar Akbar Cheema is a civil servant, currently serving as an Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) in Punjab, Pakistan, and an independent researcher focusing on Hadith studies and the intellectual history of Islamic criticism. His work on hadith analysis often extends to questions of sīrah and select themes in Qurʾānic sciences, reflecting the interconnected nature of early Islamic disciplines. With a background in conventional education, he bridges the gap between classical Islamic scholarship and audiences outside the core religious studies tradition. He has authored analytical essays addressing challenges to hadith authenticity and interpretation on icraa.org and letmeturnthetables.com, drawing from traditional scholarship while engaging modern Muslim sensibilities.
Course Description: History remembers those who transform challenges into triumphs. The story of Umar b. Abd Al Aziz is one such story, a tale of courage, integrity, and reform in an era when the values of the Prophetic model seemed lost. Born into privilege yet driven by a higher purpose, Umar rose to restore justice, governance, and compassion, earning the title of the “Fifth Rightly Guided Caliph.” This course will take you through the ebbs and flows of the Umma during his time, including the setbacks, the crises, and the extraordinary successes that shaped generations. You will discover how Umar revolutionized the zakah system, ensuring no one was left in need, and how his unwavering commitment to justice and ethics offers timeless lessons for our own struggles today. Join us to explore the life of a man who stood against the currents of his era and learn how his example can guide you to lead, act, and inspire in your own life. Do not just study history, learn from it, and find the courage to face your challenges with clarity and purpose. About The Instructor: Shaykh Hamzah Imtiaz is the Resident Scholar at the Islamic Foundation of Greater St. Louis (IFGSTL). He is known for his popular Monday Night Seerah series, an in-depth study of the life of the Prophet ﷺ now spanning over 100 sessions. He is also the founder and director of the annual Ilm Intensive, the region’s first immersive program in the traditional Islamic sciences. Shaykh Hamzah plays an active role in mentoring youth and fostering a culture of knowledge and tradition within the community. He also teaches as an Instructor with Miftaah Institute. Alongside his community work, he enjoys baseball, poetry, and historical biographies. Shaykh Hamzah began his lifelong journey of Islamic knowledge at a young age, starting with the memorization of the Qur’an. He later pursued advanced Islamic studies abroad. He dedicated six years to the Dars-e-Nizami curriculum, a rigorous  program equivalent to a BA and a MA in Arabic and Islamic Studies, studying at multiple prestigious seminaries in the subcontinent, including the Al-Hasanayn Institute for Advanced Islamic Studies in Faisalabad, Pakistan, and Jamiʿah Dar al-ʿUlum in Karachi. He studied under renowned Islamic scholars such as Mufti Muhammad Taqi al-ʿUthmani, the late Mufti Muhammad Rafiʿ al-ʿUthmani, and Mawlana Tariq Jamil, earning diplomas and teaching licenses (ijazat) in Islamic studies. He also studied under the tutelage of Mufti Muhammad Zahid, a leading authority in Hadith studies today.

Testimonials from Our Past Attendees

I’ve attended multiple intensives by other institutes in Dallas, and I have to say the Ilm Intensive was the best experience I’ve had. My favorite session was Shaykh Hamza’s explanation of Hadith Jibril. I’ve heard this hadith many times before, but the way he dove deep into it, made it relatable to us, and engaged interactively with all our questions made this my favorite session. I hope to attend every year iA!

Tasneem A.

I was so pleased to see the organizing youth and the high percentage of the youth attending, Jazakallaho Alf khair. This intensive I believe is much needed for our community. I wish it could take place multiple times every year!

Randa H.

This was my first year attending the ILM Intensive and I have to say it was a great experience. It was very obvious that a lot of foresight, thought and effort went into planning and preparing for the largest ILM Intensive yet. Kudos to everyone involved for putting on such a wonderful event for the community that benefited each and every member who came with the intention of seeking knowledge.

Irfan A.

How I’d describe the Ilm Intensive: Very organized, slides were accessible, topics were diverse, women were not ignored, food was yummy, organizers were communicative, supplies for notes were provided, very structured (felt like a class), and speakers were objective, attentive, and engaging. I attended every Ilm intensive since the first one (I'm a real one fs). While the topics were always engaging, this year was such a strong program, especially in structure. As a student, I felt like I could engage more with the content thing this year. Great job! Bring all of it back.

I. M.

This was my second ILM Intensive, and each time I've walked away very glad that I attended. It's an immersive experience that allows you to really soak in the light of our deen and feel a fresh awakening and interest towards Islam. Socializing during dinner and between sessions has really allowed me to feel like a part of this community, meet new people, and really enjoy spending a few hours in what feels like an "islamic Getaway". It's perfect and appropriate for all ages.
